Accessibility
This website is run by Glasgow Life (Culture and Sport Glasgow (Trading) CIC). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website
For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Some pages may not be clearly written and may lack correctly applied headings.
- Some links may be ambiguous.
- Some older PDF document are not fully accessible to screen reader software.
- Interacting with forms and the date picker can result in the focus order of elements to be presented in an illogical order (e.g. the What’s On form).
- Some elements on mobile (via Talkback on Android) do not receive consistent visual focus and can be repeatedly announced to the user.
- The date picker widget is not fully accessible via the keyboard on desktop
- Using the date picker on mobile can result in unexpected behaviour on the submission of information where focus is returned to the top of the page resulting in the user having to navigate back to the date picker input.

Compliance Status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
- Some videos do not include captions. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.1 (non-text content).
- Audio description to be added to video This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.5 (non-text content).
- Some pages may lack correctly applied headings. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.5 (Headings and Labels). We plan to ensure that information is provided and laid out in an accessible manner for all users and will be working our way through these updates over the coming months.
- Some links are ambiguous and do not clearly indicate their purpose, so people using a screen reader may experience confusion or disorientation. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose (In Context)).
- We plan to ensure that the purpose of each link can be determined from the link text alone and will be working our way through these updates over the coming months.
- Interacting with forms and the date picker can result in the focus order of elements to be presented in an illogical order (e.g. the What’s On form). This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3 (Focus Order) and 3.2.2 (On input).
- Some elements on mobile (via Talkback on Android) do not receive consistent visual focus. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.7 (Focus Visible)
- The date picker widget is not fully accessible via the keyboard on desktop. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard).
- Interacting with the date picker widget on mobile can result in unexpected behaviour on the submission of information where focus is returned to the top of the page resulting in the user having to navigate back to the date picker input in order to complete their query. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.2.2 (On Input).
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Many of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role value).
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
We are clearing up our web content and web contributors will be asked to ensure new PDFs or Word documents meet accessibility standards.
Pre-recorded videos
Some pre-recorded videos don’t have an audio captioning or description, so the information in them isn’t available to people who cannot see or the hear the video content. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.2, 1.2.3, 1.2.5.
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix pre-recorded videos published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
When we publish new content, we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We are always open to suggestions, additions or the reporting of accessibility problems. Users can use the contact details supplied above.
- We plan to add text alternatives for all images by September 2020 as a direction of when the item will be dealt with.
