Langside Library is to undergo a major refurbishment through funding from Glasgow City Council’s Community Asset Fund, to improve the service to better meet the needs of the local community.

Langside Library will close on Saturday 1 February at 5pm.

The programme of works at Langside Library will include, a new, flat level, accessible main entranceway on Battlefield Road, an exciting children’s zone, an improved adult reading and study area. A bookable community meeting and learning room equipped to support local community activities, and re-arranged interior spaces will provide flexibility to meet a variety of uses. Additionally, more customer toilets will be provided, including a Changing Places toilet.

During these works the nearest alternative libraries are Couper Institute, Govanhill and Pollokshaws.

Designed by Glasgow School of Art Students in the 1920’s, the twenty-one foot by seven foot mural for Langside Library was entitled ‘Queen Mary at the Battle of Langside’ and was official handed over to the Corporation of the City of Glasgow on the 6th January 1920.

There is a high curved ceiling with a long grid-colonial style skylight. There is wooden panelling around a third of the walls. The rest of the walls and ceiling are painted white. There is also colourful children's artwork on the walls, tables and chairs and colourful book storage boxes in the middle of the room.
