Congratulations to all of the fantastic winners at Glasgow's Sport Awards in 2024.

The awards showcased the difference physical activity and sport makes to Glasgow whilst recognising the amazing people and groups that make it happen.

Glasgow Business Contribution Award Winner - Allied Vehicles and North Glasgow ABC

Allied Vehicles and North Glasgow Boxing ABC

Allied Vehicles supported North Glasgow ABC with a 17 seater Minibus. This allows the club to transport young people to training and competitions and supports their hillwalking group.

Glasgow Coach of the Year Winner - Franco Smith

Franco Smith - Glasgow Warriors (Rugby)

Franco is head coach for Glasgow Warriors and led them to their first major title since 2015, winning the BKT United Rugby Championship.

Franco also led the Warriors to the Scottish - Italian Shield and 1872 Cup success.

Glasgow Community Impact Winners - Sapphire Gymnastics

 

 

Sapphire Gymnastics Club 

Sapphire Gymnastics have over 600 active members across two venues. The club deliver a range of sessions targeting different groups in the community including a real focus on the delivery for additional support needs.

Glasgow Disabled Athlete Winner - Stephen McGuire

Stephen McGuire (Boccia)

Stephen made a remarkable return from injury to win his first Gold at the Paralympics in the BC4 Men’s Individual event.

Glasgow Health and Wellbeing Award - Bluevale Community Club

Based in Dennistoun and Haghill, Bluevale deliver a range of free activities to get people active including programmes for people in recovery and activities for those with additional support needs.

Glasgow Lifetime Achievement Award Winner - Morag McCulloch

Morag McCulloch - Badminton

Morag has been involved in badminton in some capacity for 70 years and it’s fair to say that during this time it has turned into a family affair.

From being playing with Glasgow Hotspur and Glasgow and North Strathclyde Region Group to volunteering for over 50 years to help others play the game – there is no question Morag's commitment to the sport has been exceptional.

Morag has volunteered in multiple Commonwealth Games and supported World and European Championships. This is on top of the day job – organising events for Badminton Scotland and a longstanding position volunteering with Glasgow and North Strathclyde Regional Group.

Glasgow Volunteer of the Year Winner - Nadine Graham

 

 

Nadine Graham - Shettleston Boxing Club

Nadine helped establish Shettleston Boxing Club in November 2023. She has been central to the club’s growth to over 200 members and the creation of partnerships for the club to make a positive difference on local people.

Glasgow Young Sportsperson of the Year Winner - Dean Patterson

Dean Patterson - Victoria Park City of Glasgow (Athletics)

Dean won silver in the 4x100m relay in the U20 World Athletics Championships to add to his fantastic year which included gold in the 200m at the Scottish Senior Championships.

Uniting Glasgow Award Winner - Pollok United PACE Project

This project offers free football and support to asylum seekers and refugees from often acting as an entry point into living in Glasgow and providing an opportunity to meet others from the same country.

Disability Inclusive Holiday Programme

This project delivers activities during school holidays for young people with various disabilities allowing them to enjoy being active with their peers and provides support to families.

Glasgow Lord Provost Award Winners - Summerston Netball Club

 

 

Summerston Netball Club

Launched one year ago, Summerston Netball Club already has more than 65 girls to turn up and play sport weekly.

They offer sessions for primary and secondary-aged pupils as well as young adults. 

The success is even more remarkable, when you consider that around 40% of its members represent the 13-plus age bracket.

A fantastic year for a new club offering new activities - well done Summerston Netball Club.


Glasgow Sportsperson of the Year Winner - Duncan Scott MBE

Duncan Scott MBE - Swimming

Duncan won a gold and silver medal to at this year’s Paris Olympics. He is now Scotland’s most decorated Olympian with eight medals – two gold and six silver.

He also won gold in the Men’s 200-metre Individual Medley and silver in the 100-metre Freestyle and 200-metre Freestyle at the British Championships.
