Glasgow Life Volunteer Training Sessions

Who can attend?

The following training sessions are for individuals who are currently volunteering their time with Glasgow Life services and programmes.

How do I book a place?

To book any of the following sessions please contact our team via email volunteering@glasgowlife.org.uk or FREEPHONE 08085001315 and provide:

  • Your name
  • Name of your Glasgow Life volunteer programme
  • Preferred email address
  • If you have any dietary requirements as tea and coffee will be provided at each session.

The volunteering team will confirm your booking and send you more information including travel information. If we reach capacity for a session, volunteers’ names will be added to a waiting list. If demand is high we will try to arrange additional sessions.

Hearing Loss Awareness

Delivered by Royal National Institute for Deaf. This training will develop your awareness of deafness and hearing loss and improve your communication skills and confidence when speaking to fellow volunteers, employees and customers who are deaf or have hearing loss.

Induction to Glasgow Life for Volunteers

This course offers an introduction to what we do and how we work. It aims to enable volunteers to reflect on what you’ll bring to Glasgow Life and help you understand how we’ll support you during your time volunteering with us. 

This is an online course, delivered through GOLD. Once you book, you will be emailed the link which you can complete in your own time.

Climate Literacy for Glasgow

Ever wondered what Net Zero means and what YOU can do to help overcome the effects of climate change? This course provides an introduction to climate change to help increase understanding and support action.

Delivered by Glasgow Life the session will provide participants with information on Glasgow Life's competency based recruitment process, in preparation for interviews​

Sight Loss Awareness

 

Delivered by Guide Dogs Scotland, it is designed to give volunteers the confidence to assist someone living with sight loss in a practical and person-centred way.

Chest, Heart & Stroke Awareness Session

Delivered by Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland the session will cover an introduction to heart health, respiratory and stroke. The causes and how these conditions can impact people's lives. It will also cover preventative measures and signpost to citywide support available.

Cultural Sensitivity: an Introduction to Engaging with People from Different Backgrounds

Delivered by Interfaith Glasgow. The course will cover, knowledge about cultures, consider sensitivity regarding diet, customs, and traditions, understanding cultural stereotypes, bias, and power, valuing difference; adapting behaviour and effective communication.
