Our Song for Glasgow

As the UK's first UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow offers one of the most immersive live music experiences in the world.

From our legendary grassroots venues to our outstanding Ovo Hydro arena, we
enjoy a global reputation for emerging talent and are recognised by the world's biggest artists as a must-play destination thanks to our passionate fans.

Music is part of Glasgow's DNA, it's the heartbeat of our city.

Last year, we ran a competition with Go Radio to unearth ‘A Song for Glasgow’. Our aim was to find a song that captures the essence and vibrancy of our city, which will be used to represent our charity until the end of 2026.

In return, the campaign offered bands and artists a chance to gain exposure by being featured across our future marketing campaigns plus five days’ recording time at the world-class Gorbals Sound studio.

Jamie Campbell and his song ‘Glasgow’ won, and we're delighted to now be using his song in our marketing campaigns.

What we were looking for

We were looking for a piece of music made specifically for use on Glasgow Life's marketing campaigns. The track length needed to be between 2:30 and 3:30 minutes and be able to be deconstructed to fit various
activities, from videos to social media and events.

The song needed to have a contemporary Scottish feel with lyrics that resonate with locals and visitors alike, and the melody needed to be catchy and inviting; reflective of our great city’s dynamic energy, and leaving a lasting impression on the listener.

It also had to support Glasgow Life’s brand identity which involves, inclusivity, commitment and being ambitious.

What was in it for the winner?

The winner received:

  • The opportunity to perform their song live at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
  • A feature on the Go Radio Breakfast Show with Crofty and Grado.
  • Five days' studio time at the world-famous Gorbals Sound studios (used by some of Scotland’s best musical talent) with a studio engineer.
  • PLUS the track will be used by Glasgow Life in our marketing campaigns until 2026.

The journey to 'A song for Glasgow'

On Friday 19 April 2024, we launched our competition on the Go Radio Breakfast Show with Crofty and Grado, which ran for four weeks.

After being inundated with entries, we shortlisted our top ten entries and opened up voting to Go Radio listeners to choose their favourite.

Our final five artists featured on the Go Radio Breakfast Show to tell us more about their song.

On Tuesday 18 June 2024, our top five acts performed for our judging panel and a live audience at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Our judging panel, made up of city music industry experts, then chose a winner based on our brief, and that winner was Jamie Campbell with his song 'Glasgow'. You can watch the highlights of our final in the video below.
