A Song for Glasgow
Glasgow’s music scene is legendary. Internationally recognised and named the UK’s first UNESCO City of Music, hosting Scotland’s biggest music festivals to many of its national organisations, and with many iconic and diverse venues, music is the city’s beating heart. We teamed up with Go Radio to find the perfect song that showcases this amazing city.
What we were looking for
We were looking for a piece of music made specifically for use on Glasgow Life campaigns. The track length should be between 2:30 minutes and 3:30 minutes and must be able to be de-constructed to fit our different campaigns such as videos, social and events.
The song should have a real Scottish feel with lyrics that resonate with both locals and visitors alike - but that doesn't mean it needs to be really traditional, it can be contemporary - just like the city's music scene!
The melody should be catchy, inviting, and reflective of our great city’s dynamic energy, leaving a lasting impression on the listener.
It should also fit in with Glasgow Life’s brand identity which involves, inclusivity, commitment and being ambitious.
What was in it for the winner?
The winner will receive:
- the opportunity to perform their song at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall
- a feature on the Go Radio Breakfast Show with Crofty & Grado
- 5 days studio time at the famous Gorbals Sound studios (used by some of Scotland’s best talent) with a studio engineer
- PLUS the track will be used by Glasgow Life in our forthcoming campaigns - from films to social media, on advertising campaigns and at events

The journey to 'A song for Glasgow'
On Friday 19th April, we launched our competition on the Go Radio Breakfast Show with Crofty and Grado, running for 4 weeks.
After being inundated with entries, we shortlisted our top ten entries and opened up voting to Go Radio listeners to choose their favourite.
Our final five all featured on The Go Radio Breakfast Show to tell us all about their song.
On Tuesday 18th June 2024 our top 5 performed at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for our judging panel and esteemed guests.
Our judging panel chose a winner based on our brief, and that winner was Jamie Campbell with his song 'Glasgow', which you can listen to in the video below.
