Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2025

Two people are having a conversation while sitting on armchairs in a library. One of them is holding a leaflet and wears a green Macmillan Cancer Support lanyard

The last week of January is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, a dedicated awareness campaign aimed at educating people about cervical cancer, its prevention and the importance of regular screenings.

Cervical cancer is a largely preventable disease, and Cervical Cancer Prevention Week serves as a reminder to prioritise cervical health and take steps to reduce the risk of this cancer.

The awareness week is an annual initiative organised by various healthcare organisations, including cancer charities and healthcare providers. Its primary goal is to raise awareness about cervical cancer, encourage women to attend cervical screenings (also known as smear tests), and provide information about the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccination.

Macmillan cancer support and information services are available in Glasgow Life Libraries.

If you or someone you care about has a cancer diagnosis, Macmillan is there to help. Macmillan provides cancer support and information in-person and by phone. The service is available for people living with cancer or those in recovery and it is also there for family, friends, carers or the bereaved.

Macmillan volunteers offer lots of services, including:

  • In-person support and information.
  • Emotional, practical and financial support.
  • Someone to talk to about how you are feeling.
  • Free information about cancer, including diagnosis, treatment and coping with cancer.
  • Referrals to free therapies such as counselling, stress management and podiatry.
  • Referral to your local Macmillan benefits adviser, who can help with financial worries.
  • Help finding local services such as Improving the Cancer Journey.
