ESOL learner celebration event at Parkhead

A large group of people gathered for a photo in front of a colourful display of artwork under a banner that reads Adult Learning Week

Some of our Glasgow Life Libraries and Communities ESOL learners swapped their jotters and pens for a day of creative writing and arts and crafts in Parkhead Library last month. ESOL Adult Learning Tutors organised the event as a celebration of Adult Learning Week (18 to 24 May), with 35 learners from four different ESOL classes in the East of the city taking part.

The theme for the celebration was 'Spring' with different creative learning activities for learners to complete at their own pace.

The activities included a Spring themed acrostic poem which the group colourfully decorated and displayed on the newly created Adult Learning Week display board in the library. They then used fast drying clay to make objects inspired by nature, and created a display of Spring 'flowers' using brightly coloured felt pens, sequins and crystals. The learners also had a chance to chat and take photos while enjoying some light refreshments.

The feedback from the event was very positive with many saying that they don't often get the chance to be creative and they really enjoyed themselves.
