ESOL learners excited to progress to the next level
Glasgow Life ESOL tutor Sharon Allison captured the happy moment some of her ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners received their certificates of achievement, while also wishing them good luck in their future studies. They were just some of the successful ESOL learners from across the city who either gained a place at college or progressed to the next ESOL level.
This year over 45 Glasgow Life ESOL learners successfully achieved a college place through the Partnership Graduate ESOL Programme between Glasgow Life, Glasgow Clyde College and Glasgow Kelvin College. The transition to college can be a challenging step, mastering conversational English as well as academic skills. Community ESOL classes help to bridge this gap for many, and through regular attendance tutors are able to identify learners that are college ready.
A further 15 learners in the east of the city were also presented with certificates recognising their dedication in attending weekly community ESOL classes and successfully progressing from ESOL starter level to beginner level. Not all ESOL learners want to go to college or feel ready for the college experience, but progressing from one language level to the next is a significant achievement. It represents not only an increase in language skills, but also growth in confidence and the ability to interact more meaningfully in an English-speaking environment.
Well done to all our ESOL learners and a big thank you to our ESOL tutors.
