Happy Diwali 2024

Diwali is a major religious festival in Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism, celebrated over five days. This year, Diwali falls on Friday 1 November.

Diwali typically falls between late October and November, with the date changing every year, and symbolises the victory of light over darkness. The name comes from the Sanskrit word ‘dipavali’, meaning ‘row of lights’.

The main celebrations take place on the third day of Diwali, the darkest day of the month, coinciding with the Hindu lunisolar calendar. Lakshmi, goddess of fortune, prosperity and wealth, is the main deity worshipped during Diwali.

Let’s support our colleagues who celebrate during this time – feel free to say ‘Happy Diwali’, which is a simple way to greet someone celebrating the festival of lights. You can also say ‘Deepavalee mubarak ho’, which is pronounced ‘dee-wall-ee moo-bar-ak ho’.
