LOW EMISSIONS ZONE (LEZ)

All vehicles entering the Glasgow City Centre Low Emissions Zone (LEZ) will need to meet the less-polluting emission standards or face a penalty charge.

If you are planning on utilising a city centre car park or arranging to pick up or drop off, plan your journey to avoid using the LEZ routes. Check your vehicle using the online vehicle checker:

www.lowemissionzones.scot/vehicle-registration-checker

Glasgow’s low emission zone came into effect on Glasgow on 1 June 2023.

Vehicles which do not meet emission standards will no longer be able to enter parts of the city centre.

The low emissions zone covers an area between the M8 motorway to the north and west, the River Clyde to the south, and the Saltmarket/High Street to the east.

However, the M8 itself is not part of the low emission zone.

Glasgow City Council has installed signs and road markings at all entry points, and automatic number plate recognition cameras are being installed.

All vehicles entering the city centre zone area will need to meet the less-polluting emission standards or face a penalty charge.

Fully electric vehicles meet LEZ requirements in Scotland.

Motorcycles and mopeds are unaffected.

In general, petrol vehicles registered from 2006 onwards and diesel engine vehicles registered after September 2015 will meet the required standards.

Transport Scotland has set up a website which allows people to check if their vehicle is compliant.

Blue Badge holders who require exemptions can register their details on Transport Scotland's LEZ exemption system.

Full details about Glasgow's LEZ can be found on the LEZ Key Information page.
