California-born Kelly Finnigan is the vocalist, keyboardist, and frontman of LA indie-soul trailblazers Monophonics. After writing, recording, performing and producing his own solo material, Finnigan hits the road with his killer live band, The Atonements.
While his music invokes a golden era of soul music, Finnigan captures a timelessness that transcends the “retro” label. The result is a collection of songs underscored by a sense of community. Raw and gritty, tender and emotive, lush and symphonic.
His latest release, A Lover Was Born, shows that his deep-cut grooves are not resigned to nostalgia. Instead, they’re at the burning heart of longing and hope. It also serves as a reminder that Kelly Finnigan is a rare mix of composer, singer, and producer — a true soul auteur.
