Culture at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships
The Glasgow 2014 effect
Like Glasgow 2014, the UCI Cycling World Championships had a GO LIVE! programme.
GO LIVE! featured an exciting programme of cultural and community participation activities.
It was a great way for people to get involved in the event and soak up the atmosphere.
George Square was transformed into the official UCI fan zone.
It featured a variety of performances from the best of Glasgow and Scotland's arts and culture scene.
The stage was also used as a chance to showcase contributions from Glasgow's year-round festivals. This included Celtic Connections, Piping Live, and the Mela.
GO LIVE! at George Square
GO LIVE! across Glasgow
GO LIVE! family days also took place in Tollcross, Merchant Square and Cathkin Braes.
These featured a variety of activities to make sure people could get involved in the championships, even if they weren't a sports fan.
The programme ranged from "come and try" cycling to dance parties, performances and craft activities.
GO LIVE! at the Road Race featured vibrant street arts entertainment at Argyle Street, Kelvingrove and City of Glasgow College.
People could enjoy the thrill of the road races while also being entertained by some of the best street
performers in Scotland.
The Artists in Communities programme organised several of the GO LIVE! activities.
They featured local artists and arts organisations and were designed to boost community participation in the event.
Throughout 2023, they encouraged and helped local people to take part in projects across visual arts, music, dance, poetry, storytelling, and film-making.
