New and refurbished venues

The venues created and upgraded for the Games have benefitted Glaswegians and attracted major sport events to the city

A physical legacy

The venues created and refurbished for Glasgow 2014 are a legacy of the Games.

They benefit local people by giving them more opportunities to be active.

The venues also provide a base for clubs and help develop elite athletes.

Having world-class sport facilities plays a key part in Glasgow attracting global events.

Over the past decade, the city has hosted many high-profile events across various sports.

The venues are also the reason Glasgow is trusted to host new kinds of multi-sport events.

In 2018, the city co-hosted the first-ever European Championships.

Five years later, Glasgow held the UCI Cycling World Championships.

The Emirates Arena

The Emirates Arena was used for badminton matches during Glasgow 2014.

The venue has since hosted events across several sports. Most notably, the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships.

The Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup and World Badminton Championships have also come to the east end of Glasgow.

As if that wasn't enough, the arena has housed boxing and snooker events too.

The Emirates is used for more than just elite competition. It has one of Glasgow's biggest gyms which is popular with people in the city.

The athletics track is also used by local clubs and athletes who make use of the world-class facility.

Since April 2014 there have been over 2.6 million visits to the venue.


Tollcross International Swimming Centre

Tollcross International Swimming Centre is a world-class facility with two 50 metre Olympic-sized pools.

The pool is used by local people and competitive swimmers.

It is home to the City of Glasgow Swim Team. The club's swimmers have gone on to compete in the Olympics, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.

The pool is also a venue for local, national and international swimming events.

These include the 2019 LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships and the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships.

Tollcross is an important venue for the local community. It has a state-of-the-art gym, sports halls and a cafe.

There have been over 4.2 million visits to Tollcross since April 2014.


The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome

The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is the only indoor velodrome in Scotland.

The world's best athletes have competed on the track at several major events at the venue.

The velodrome hosted the Track Cycling World Cup in 2019 and the 2022 Track Nations Cup.

It was also used for track events during the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.

The venue is home to the sport's governing body, Scottish Cycling, and is vital for elite athletes.

The velodrome is for everyone. Anyone can become an accredited rider and enjoy cycling on the track.


Scotstoun Sports Campus

Six new squash courts were built at Scotstoun for Glasgow 2014.

The glass-backed courts are unique as they can be turned into doubles courts.

This allowed Scotstoun to host the World Doubles Squash Championships in 2022.

There are coaching sessions at the venue for all levels and camps during school holidays.

The courts are also home to the Scotstoun Eagles Squash Club.


Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre

The pavilion at the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre was refurbished for the Games.

The five bowling greens were also upgraded to an international standard.

Anyone can play bowls at Kelvingrove for free. There have been nearly 240,000 visits to the venue since a few months before Glasgow 2014.

The trails are well-used by the public and have also hosted elite competition since the Games.
