Evening Times Roll of Honour
The Evening Times Roll of Honour is an invaluable resource for family historians trying to trace family members who fell or were injured or reported missing during World War I.
During the War, Glasgow's Evening Times newspaper printed short biographies of service personnel who were reported as missing, killed or wounded. Many of these biographies were accompanied by a photograph of these long-gone heroes, often now the only one that exists. Staff in The Mitchell Library have spent several years indexing the names of service personnel and most lists are available to view online: 1914, 1915, 1917, 1918 and 1919 are complete. Some of 1916 is available online and will be completed shortly.
The Evening Times is available to view on microfilm and it may be possible (depending on the condition of the original newspaper) to get a copy of the entry and accompanying photograph via our photographic service. Please ask staff for details.
