Military Service Tribunal Records Released
Explore the records of almost 6000 WW1 tribunal applicants via the ScotlandsPeople Network.
Family and military historians will be delighted with the release of the Military Service Appeals Tribunal records on ScotlandsPeople.
From 1916, volunteers and conscripted men seeking exemption from military service could apply to various tribunals. The appeal cases of almost 6000 men seeking exemption between 1916 and 1918 are now fully searchable by name, address, grounds and occupation.
The newly released records cover Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders, with a few chance survivals from other areas.
By exploring these records you can find out the grounds on which people appealed against military service, statements furthering the appeal and biographical information about the applicant and his family such as names, addresses and occupations.
These records can be accessed via the ScotlandsPeople Network in the Mitchell.
