Collections focus
Collections Showcase and temporary displays are now open. Tours of the Glasgow Museums' Stores run regularly.
The City of Glasgow owns one of the finest civic museum collections in Europe. The Scottish Government’s Museum Recognition Scheme accredits our collections as being 'of national significance'.
Kelvin Hall provides secure and stable storage for approximately 400,000 objects. These items had previously been stored in Glasgow Museums' Maryhill facility which had very limited public access.
The following collections are now accessible at Kelvin Hall via tours and special events:
- Furniture
- Social History
- Transport & Technology
- Archaeology
- Education Collections
- World Cultures
- History
- Ceramic tiles
- Charles Rennie Mackintosh - a substantially unaltered archive of his original designs.
- Room settings - including 17 interiors designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for Miss Cranston's Ingram Street tearooms.
The collections are mainly in storage. Access is through a regular programme of tours, talks, collections study and learning activities.
