10th Style Mile Carnival to transform the city centre with Christmas Carnival Carousel
A host of fantasy characters, giant artworks, performing troupes, dancers and musicians will transform city streets around Glasgow on Sunday, when the 10th Style Mile Carnival spreads Christmas cheer for all to see and hear.
The Christmas Carnival Carousel will take place from 1pm on Sunday 24 November, bringing free festive fun and entertainment to all as part of Glasgow Loves Christmas.
Starting at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall steps at the giant Festive Glasgow Coat of Arms, people can interact with 22 jolly creations at 12 locations, animating the streets from Buchanan Galleries, past Princes Square and Argyll Arcade, all the way to St Enoch Centre.
Shoppers and passers-by will be treated to a magical show from cheerful Christmas-themed characters, including a larger-than-life Father Christmas and his trusty, red-nosed reindeer Rudolph. Also getting in on the action will be some cheeky elves, taking a break from toy making, dancing snowflakes, stilt walkers, and a large Christmas bauble, candle and peacock.
To celebrate the 10th Style Mile Carnival some never-before-seen characters will entertain everyone shopping, meeting friends, or having lunch this Sunday. Make way for the Christmas Cracker Duo and a group of roller-skating Winter Swish Guards. Head to the delicious looking Gingerbread Hoose, where little ones can create bespoke Style Mile souvenirs to take away, just don’t be tempted to take a bite.
With such merriment smiles will be on show. Pose for a memorable photograph under the Selfie Arch, or beside any creation, and claim one of 500, limited edition 10th anniversary snowflake Style Mile Christmas tree Souvenirs. These can be redeemed by visiting the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity shop in Buchanan Galleries. All visitors can scan a QR code adorning each character to discover excellent deals on offer around the Style Mile.
Come along for a free, joyful celebration that people can dip in and out of throughout the afternoon. Then as early evening approaches and the sky starts to darken, watch in wonder as the magical creatures transform into illuminated spectacles.
Glasgow’s Lord Provost, Jacqueline McLaren, said: “The Style Mile Carnival always brings a joyful, festive atmosphere to the city centre. Imaginative creations bringing the streets to life. Guaranteed to make everyone smile and put them in the mood for Christmas. Join us this Sunday for our 10th anniversary Style Mile celebrations and take the chance to shop, enjoy a coffee or a catch up with friends.
“Afterwards, stop by George Square to see the festive lights and the projection show lighting up the City Chambers. Remember, there’s also Winterfest at St Enoch’s Square. The entire Glasgow Loves Christmas events programme promises a welcome boost for city centre businesses as the Christmas countdown gets well and truly underway.”
Glasgow has an ongoing programme of activity and events, which includes the Winterfests (markets) in George Square and St Enoch Square, and the Glasgow Santa Dash on Sunday 8 December. To find out more visit the Glasgow Loves Christmas webpage.
