Sandie

Sandie is one of 70 new volunteers at The Burrell Collection, becoming a Trainee Museums Collection Guide in March 2022 following the museum’s £68.25 million refurbishment. Looking for a rewarding role after retiring from a stressful job, Sandie’s switch to the Glasgow Life volunteering team illustrates the positive impact volunteering has on our volunteers and those who rely on our services.

Sandie said “the exhibits and meeting people” are two of the most enjoyable elements of her role as a volunteer, which has also enabled Sandie to adjust to retired life.

Volunteering is really helping me to adapt to retirement. It’s helping me to share my understanding and knowledge with others, and to stretch my brain and learn things I didn’t know
