Armistice Day displays and events at Glasgow Life
Glasgow Life will mark Armistice Day on Monday 11 November with a two-minute silence at 11.00am.
This weekend, remembrance events will be held around the country to pay tribute to the Armed Forces and commemorate the fallen.
Displays and events at our venues will explore and reflect on past conflicts and tell the stories of some of the people involved.
These include the GlaswegAsians display at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which represents the contribution made by South Asian soldiers during World War II. GlaswegAsians also includes a rare Victoria Cross, awarded to Naik Gian Singh, who fought with the British Indian Army in Burma, now Myanmar.
The organ recitals at Kelvingrove Museum on Saturday 9 November (1.00pm) and Sunday 10 November (3.00pm) will feature stirring music to mark Remembrance Weekend.
St Mungo's Museum of Religious Life and Art will host poppy-crafting events on Saturday 9 November and Sunday 10 November (1.30-4.00pm) to mark Armistice Day.
John Akomfrah's Mimesis: African Soldier at the Gallery of Modern Art considers the contribution of more than six million African, Caribbean and South Asian people who served in World War I. The exhibition weaves new footage with archival material and photographs.
