To celebrate...

As part of the Colleague Feedback Survey, Tourism and Conventions colleagues committed to celebrate the following: targets being achieved and exceeded; being a successful team, supporting each other; winning M&IT Best Convention Bureau 2023; Glasgow's excellent reputation for business events nationally and internationally; and retaining the city's top 10 spot on the Global Destination Sustainability (GDS) Index.

The team also committed to celebrating the launch of the Glasgow 2030 Tourism Strategy and the positive relationships it has with members and industry/stakeholders.

To improve...

Tourism and Conventions team members are continuing to adapt to a changing environment within the team and changing client requirements. The team is also working with partners to improve travel trade strategy and planning time.

To start doing...

Tourism and Conventions also committed to consider what Glasgow Convention Bureau sales and support looks like now and how client needs might look in the future. The service also vowed to share regular insights on the performance of tourism channels, including its website, social media, and newsletter, following the launch of its new business-to-business website.

Below, the team outlines its progress so far:

Following the Colleague Feedback Survey in September 2023, the Tourism and Conventions team held a series of team away days to review and enhance our offering to clients. We have established an internal Positive Impact and Legacy Team to enable conference organisers to extend the impact of the conference beyond the walls of the venue, while also building equality, diversity and inclusion considerations into any activities we are working on with clients and stakeholders.

The team also coordinated this year's submission to the GDS Index, which ranks the sustainable credentials of conference destinations worldwide. Currently, Glasgow is ranked eighth and we are aiming to remain within the top 10. Since the survey, we have also celebrated several significant successful conference bids, such as Diabetes UK, the European Atherosclerosis Society, and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. These three conferences alone will generate £25 million for the local economy in 2025.

From a tourism perspective, the Glasgow Tourism Action Plan 2024-26 went live in April to support the delivery of the Glasgow 2030 Tourism Strategy. Also, the launch of the launch of the new www.visitglasgow.org.uk website in April provides a platform to enhance communication, connect with travel trade and offer greater visibility of how we work with industry.
