Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival showcases the rich diversity and value of city buildings
Glasgow residents and visitors to the city are being invited to explore the hidden gems of its distinctive, impressive urban realm during the Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival, which takes place from Monday 16 to Sunday 22 September.
Delivered annually by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust (GBPT), this year's 35th edition of the event, which is supported by Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Heritage Trust, offers a captivating insight into the city's architectural and cultural heritage. Celebrating the rich diversity of design and much-valued use of city buildings by Glasgow's communities and visitors, the festival showcases 100 unique venues, some of which are rarely open to the public.
The expansive and varied range of venues throwing open their doors to the public, encouraging understanding and appreciation of them, includes the Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre, the Greyfriars' Biophilic Garden, and Glasgow Women's Library.
This theme of this year's festival programme, We're All Here: Diversity & Diaspora, also aims to shine a spotlight on the stories of the people who have shaped the city and capture the spirit of Glasgow as a welcoming, multicultural hub where history and modernity co-exist.
