Join us at the Burrell Collection as we delve deeper into the content and techniques of Edgar Degas. In this 2 day session (Thurs 18th July and Saturday 20th July) you will hear from experts in the subject matter that Degas chose to paint and in the medium he chose to use. You can come to both days or just one – it is up to you.
Day 1 – Presentations from speakers: Thursday 18th
July 10 am – 4 pm
Day 2 – Practical pastels session with artist: Saturday
20th July 10 – 4 pm
Each day
will start with a visit to Discovering Degas: Collecting in the Time of Sir
William Burrell. On day one we will be
joined by Pippa Stephenson, Exhibition co-curator and curator of European Art at
Glasgow museums, Dr Robyne Calvert from University of Glasgow, Ann Evans who
conserved and made ready many of the works on display and practising artist
Fiona Blakey who specialises in using pastels to create scenes of modern life.
Day two is
more hands on and you will spend the day with Fiona Blakey who will guide you
through pastel techniques and encourage your creativity to produce your own
scene from modern life. As some visitors
may have taken part in day one we have chosen not to include an exhibition
ticket in day 2 but should you wish to visit the exhibition

Please note that on each day we will take an hour for lunch which will not be provided. There is a restaurant, café and picnic areas should you wish to bring your own lunch. Car parking charges will apply and details can be found here.
