This summer Glasgow Libraries are teaming up with the UCI Cycling World Championships to celebrate sport and the city with a series of 10 free city-wide author events and creative writing workshops discussing fiction and non-fiction sporting stories.
As part of this events programme join poet and author Julie McNeill at Maryhill Library for a creative writing workshop focused on writing about sport.
What does sport mean to you? Whether it’s the moments of elation watching your icons defy the odds or the power of riding the waves watching or playing in a team. Maybe it’s the ones that got away - that sports day near-triumph as a child or the underdog story that never quite ran it’s course.
Bring your best and worst sporting memories to this free workshop and use them as inspiration to write creatively about the elation, despair, routine, chaos and hope that only sport can bring into our lives.
Julie McNeill is a sport/football enthusiast and is the Poet in Residence for St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation and the Makar for The Scottish Women’s National Football Team Poets Society.
