This Book Week Scotland (18th- 24th
November) join Glasgow Libraries for our citywide packed programme of
inspiring, interesting and entertaining bookish events for people of all ages.
This year’s Book Week Scotland theme is Hope, and so we are
delighted to welcome Mel Young to the Mitchell Library to discuss his book Home
Game: The True Story of the Homeless World Cup which tells the story of the
1.2 million homeless people from 70 countries who have taken part in the
Homeless World Cup, including Glasgow in 2016, since it started in 2003. Home
Game describes its profound impact on players, spectators and society at
large – and how ‘a ball can change the world’
Mel Young MBE is a global social entrepreneur who is
passionate about tackling poverty and ending homelessness around the world. He
co-founded the Homeless World Cup in 2003 and under his leadership, the partner
network has expanded to over 70 countries, helping to transform the lives of
more than one million people. He has set up a number of social enterprises and
continues to develop more. He also believes sport has the power to change the
world and make lasting impact.

Accessible toilets
This accessible toilet is approximately 26m (28yd 1ft) from the main entrance. This accessible toilet is located to the rear right as you enter.
Assistance dogs
Guide and assistance dogs are welcome and a bowl of water can be provided.
Hearing loop
There is a fixed loop hearing assistance system.
This venue does not play background music.
Wheelchair access
There is a wheelchair to borrow. To borrow the wheelchair, please contact a member of staff.
Motorised scooters are allowed in public parts of the venue.

Parking
Please note that there is on-street surrounding The Mitchell Library, from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday this is metered. As this is also a local residential area, please use these spaces considerately. Alternatively, there is an a NCP Car Park on India Street next to Charing Cross Train Station which is a 2 minute walk away.
Photography and video recording
On occasion, Glasgow Life will be on the premises to film and take photos.
