This talk will explore the life of Prince Alemayehu, the son of Emperor Tewodros of Ethiopia and Queen Terunesh, who was drawn by Simpson while they were in retreat from Maqdala, which had been raided and looted by the British army. After his father’s suicide and his mother’s death, he was brought to the UK, where he died aged 18. Join Clare Thompson, Librarian at The Mitchell Library to explore this story in the context of the William Simpson Collection. This event is free to attend, but ticketed.
