Step into Song Club, where some of the UK’s most exciting emerging singer-songwriters collide for an evening of raw talent, unique collaborations, and fresh energy. Nell Mescal, Katie Gregson-MacLeod, The Howl & The Hum (Solo), Elanor Moss, Matthew Herd (Seafarers), and Hector Shaw take the stage, bringing a new generation of voices to the Celtic Connections festival, pushing the boundaries of folk, indie, and acoustic music.
Backed by an incredible house band led by producer Euan Burton, featuring Louis Abbott (Admiral Fallow) on drums and Laura Jane Wilkie on violin, these artists will deliver a night of unforgettable performances, blending intimate acoustic moments with soaring anthems.
Nell Mescal, with her evocative vocals and songwriting that has drawn the attention of stars like Jennifer Garner and James Bay, adds a touch of heart-wrenching honesty. She’s garnered a huge social media following and continues to make waves with her emotionally charged performances and upcoming EP Can I Miss it for a Minute?
Katie Gregson-MacLeod broke onto the scene when her track "Complex" went viral on TikTok, landing her a record deal with Columbia and earning her a nomination for Best Song Musically and Lyrically at the 2023 Ivor Novello Awards. Her delicate yet powerful songwriting has established her as one of Scotland's most promising new talents.
The Howl & The Hum brings powerful storytelling and raw emotional honesty. Fresh from the release of his new album Same Mistake Twice singer-songwriter Sam Griffiths has spent the past decade honing his craft. His music, both introspective and expansive, grapples with themes of anxiety, self-reflection, and personal growth. Same Mistake Twice delves deep into the chaos and pain of recent years, confronting uncertainty with searing honesty.
Elanor Moss is a rising star whose indie-tinged sound has caught the attention of Blue Raincoat Music (Phoebe Bridgers, Christian Lee Hutson, Arlo Parks). Moss has since found herself championed and playlisted across BBC 6 Music and on tour opening for artists like Christian Lee Hutson, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, and Cassandra Jenkins. Her deeply reflective songwriting will take the audience on an intimate journey through her world.
Hector Shaw, the Glasgow-born singer-songwriter, blends intimate, folk-inspired songwriting with powerful lyrics that explore themes of queerness and self-reflection. His music has earned praise from BBC Radio and Folk Radio UK, and his recent EP Fawns expands his sound with lush arrangements and soaring harmonies.
Matthew Herd, known for his work with Seafarers, brings his multi-instrumental talent and songwriting finesse to the evening. His work spans genres from chamber pop to jazz, and his ability to weave intricate stories through music makes him a perfect addition to this lineup.
Whether through intimate acoustic performances or soaring indie anthems, Song Club promises a night of collaboration, innovation, and unforgettable music. Bringing the raw energy of these remarkable artists to life, this show will be an experience to remember on the Celtic Connections stage.
