New Parkhead Hub is just weeks away from welcoming patients, clients and customers
A major new community health and social care services facility, which also incorporates the relocated Parkhead Library, is now just weeks away from opening after the completion of building works.
Located in Duke Street in the East End of Glasgow, The Parkhead Hub is currently in the final stages of being fitted out. It is hoped the state-of-the-art facility will start welcoming patients, clients and customers in late January.
The pioneering project is the result of a collaboration involving NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), and other partners. Its completion marks the culmination of seven years’ planning and development to bring together, under one roof, community health and social care services currently located across a number of different sites.
In addition to providing a 'one-stop shop' for an extensive range of health and social care services for adults and children, the thriving new hub will include community spaces, a café, and the relocated Parkhead Library, operated by Glasgow Life.
Councillor Chris Cunningham, Glasgow City Council Convener for Health, Care and Caring, and Older People, said: “The Parkhead Hub will be, without doubt, a fantastic community asset for the north-east of the city.
“Our ambition is to ensure that everyone in Glasgow can lead healthier lives and the new hub, and all the services it will provide, will help us achieve that.
“This is a great example of co-locating services and partnership working. It’s a one-stop shop for residents to access services from a range of organisations including the City Council, Glasgow Life, and the Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership.”
Alana Ward, Head of Libraries and Communities at Glasgow Life, said: “The opening of this hub is an exciting new chapter for Parkhead Library and the local area. This modern and more accessible library will continue to be a friendly space for the whole community.
“Parkhead Library users will have uninterrupted access to our services as the new library will open as soon as the old one shuts. We look forward to welcoming people to the library in early 2025.”
The Parkhead Hub was designed by Hoskins Architects and BAM construction was the lead contractor. Hub West Scotland was appointed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) as its development partner to deliver the project.
