Guitarist Sean Shibe and Scottish fiddler Aidan O’Rourke – LÙBAN (Gaelic: loops) - a programme focused on reviving and refreshing a collection of ancient lute and fiddle manuscripts, mixing classical and folk, formal and rustic. While many in the classical world are trying to reverse-engineer the blurring of boundaries, this is a new collaboration which will go to the source.
Two Scottish musicians
who are both embedded in tradition – with Sean Shibe carrying a torch for
classical music as the broadest possible church and Aidan O’Rourke deep-rooted
in Scottish folk culture. The programme will include ancient lute and fiddle
manuscripts brought back to life in a new sound.
Scottish
artist and composer, Kate Young has recently released her album, Umbelliferæ,
which is largley inspired by plantlore and the traditional uses of wildflowers
from across the UK. Song-lead string arrangements make for a rich and unique
listening and live experience - much like a sensorial wander through a
botanical garden.
